Mer om foredraget:
Los Angeles represented for architects not only the open territory of post-war Californian modernity, but also as a breeding ground for new forms of architectural space and practice. The lecture explores the historic context of Los Angeles architecture through three distinct groups of architects. Starting with the European modernist immigration from Austria with Richard Neutra and Rudolf Schindler to the Hollywood Hillsides, continuing to the "New School" of east coast deconstructivists Thom Mayne, Frank Gehry and their Venice beach contemporaries, to the current multiplicity of younger global practices expanding their own architectural territory from the context of California.
